    Make the Port Our Engine

    Plaquemines sits at the mouth of the busiest river in America. Public port facilities can be a gold mine for this parish as oil and fishing change around us. I have done this work already: I met with leaders in Honduras about the Port of Cortés partnering with Plaquemines Parish Government. In 2009 I met with the President of the International Association of Ports and Harbors, who was also second in command at the Port of Mombasa — and Mombasa was willing to partner with the Port of Plaquemines. Geraldine Knatz, then president of the American Association of Port Authorities, offered to roll out the red carpet to help us develop here at home. Those doors were open. We should walk through them.

    Recovery That Reaches Every Family

    I helped families put their lives back together after Hurricane Katrina and the storms that followed, and again after the BP spill. I know what it takes to get a family from a claim number to a roof over their heads. Recovery money should reach the people it was sent for — down the road and on both sides of the river, not just where it is convenient.

    Safety, Standards and Straight Books

    Thirty-one years at Chevron taught me that safety and accountability are not paperwork — they are how you get everybody home. I served as Quality Improvement Coordinator, Health and Safety Coordinator and a certified port security officer. I will bring those same standards to parish operations, contracts and spending.

    Good Jobs for Plaquemines People

    A roustabout can become a transportation coordinator. I know because I did it. Parish investment should come with a path for local workers — training, certification and hiring that keeps our young people from having to leave the parish to build a life.

    Coast, Community and Faith

    The land under us is our inheritance and our shield. Protecting it is parish business. So is standing with the churches, volunteers and neighbors who show up long before any agency does. I have pastored this community through its hardest days and I will govern the same way.
